Don’t Ignore the Ashes
It’s publication day for my essay “Don’t Ignore the Ashes” at Hippocampus Magazine.
This is one of the essays from my (as yet unpublished) memoir collection and explores the role that bystanders play in the lives of others.
“Do we have a responsibility to reach out a hand and offer support even when it makes us uncomfortable? Or should we respect the life choices others have made? I don’t think there’s an easy answer. Showing up for others is hard. It means stepping out of our own places of safety. It’s difficult. But every time someone looked away from me, it left space for John’s violence to continue unchecked.”

It's not an easy essay, but it's one I'm really proud of. (Domestic Violence content warning.)
